@Alive4Metal That, and a few other of your other comments and conclusions aren’t quite accurate.

personally i find resistance training of much more efficient for losing those last couple of pounds that get you from Lean to ripped. the problem I see in the gyms i go to is that people over do it with the cardio, and end up developing the “skinny fat” syndrome

Love this

I lost weight by walking home 3 1/2 miles from work which took me 1 hour 10 minutes. I now bike it there and back but i prefer to walk to be honest.

So how much cardio do you need for losing fat without having a negative effect on building muscle?

Recent studies have shown that as little as 15 to 20 minutes of cardio 3 to 4 times a week is sufficient at losing body fat and keeping the fat off for good. However, the cardio you perform should be at a very intense level, meaning for the duration of the 15 minutes you are working very hard with no pausing to rest.

cardio doesn’t maintain muscle, it just burns calories. can’t you just eat less if you want a larger calorie deficit?

no the muscle will aid in calorie burning if you have hit a plateau with your weight loss you can manipulate one of the factors i.e. lower calorie intake, increase calorie expenditure or both and make sure you do not go on a crash diet or you will slow down your metabolism just spread out your food intake to 6 meals and never feel hungry just quality food no processed crap that way your metabolism will be at it’s max all the time.

just to clarify an untrained out of shape adult will benefit more in the long run by adopting a bodybuilding style of muscle building fat loss regime due tio the added muscle and the benefits that come along with that but in the short term fat loss for a moderately trained adult adding significant cardio to your workout regime will see more fat loss faster due to the intensity and unlimited potential for gym time, bodybuilding requires frequent rest to allow for muscle growth between workouts.

My human movement professors stipulate the exact opposite.

If a one hour cardio session burns 600 callories, and a weights sessions 400, then the weight session is the superior workout, as the extra muscle gained in burning fat at rest *24* hours a day, and not just the couple of hours after cardio.

what if i wanted to get to a desired weight, and i now do cardio and a little bit of weight lifting. would the weight lifting stop me from losing fat because of the muscle gain?

Only thing you proven is that you are ignorant. Hiit is vastly superior to straight tredmill and if you dont do some weight training with cardio you will look bad still i.e loose skin and stretch marks. So lugger go be a fat fucking idiot somewhere else moron.

thanx brosef . i will lift hard, and i am

WOA WOA WOA WOA WOA. thats a great weight for football. just hit the weights HARD, you’ll be beastly if you’ve got the talent on the field to combine with strength.

Lockdotz, you hillbilly retard. The only thing you’ve proven is your poor English skills. You ain’t gonna do nothing, but sit behind your computer get berated (look up word if needed). Go talk tough somewhere else.

As per the topic at hand, if you can’t stand the treadmill, stationary bikes, etc, you can always turn your weight lifting routine into semi cardio, by losing the rest time in between sets (obviously reducing weight and increasing reps).

find something iron and heavy and start lifting that shit. Squat, bench, deadlift and eat clean.

Meh Do hiit no need to be on a treadmill for an hr. And if you need to lose weight start lifting some heavy ass weight or you will look like a loose skinned weakling. Also doubt what I say and ill shove ripptoe down your fucking throat.

i dont know i wanna b at least 280. im 6′2 by the way

First, are you still growing? Second, I will let Steve takeover!!

In the Military, they tell us Cardio is the god for losing weight.

Last but not least: when going for cardio it will help you if you pick an exercise that you do because you like it and not simply because you must. A sport like swimming, playing tennis, cycling etc can very well be the cardio alternative you need and you enjoy doing (instead of running like a hamster on a boring treadmill)

Something that everybody should consider when training with weights: compared to cardio weightlifting builds muscle mass which may result in gaining weight overall instead of losing. BUT your scale tells only half of the story: what you should be focusing is NOT losing weight but losing fat.
And of course as many have noted before me combining cardio + weightlifting is the best way to achieve a healthy, muscular and fat free body.

steve . i need ur help bud . im 17 im in football and im 250 lbs i wanna loose weight and gain muscle . do u have suggestions .

anyone for tht matter have a suggestion ??

i work and id rather spend my money on a homemade meal with my family then go to the gym, im not overweight but i was a couple of years ago, i love working out with my best m8 we do weight lifting, walk about 1 hour a day and do some yoga moves and balance games on the Wii Fitness (makes it less boring) the important thing is to eat well and keep youre daily activities mixed up love my body ;O

Okay…I’ve been working out for almost a year now…weights/cardio/basketball/walking…I started at 250…I’m down to 220 now….I started with 15 min. cardio/ 15 minutes weights and gradually increased my workouts..now I work out for 2 hrs straight with very little rest…you’ve got to mix up your workouts once in a while…cardio will help you lose weight, while lifting builds muscle and burns fat…
